Aħna, l-għaqdiet u l-entitajiet li jaħdmu favur l-iżvilupp tal-ilsien Malti, naqblu mal-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ilsien Malti li t-twaqqif taċ-Ċentru tal-Ilsien Malti mniedi mill-Ministru għall-Wirt Kulturali, l-Arti u l-Gvern Lokali huwa null għaliex sar bla tħejjija ta’ xejn u mingħajr ma saret konsultazzjoni mal-Kunsill tal-Malti bil-mod kif titlobha l-liġi. Aħna għandna fiduċja sħiħa fil-Kunsill u t-tmexxija tiegħu, u qegħdin nappoġġjawh f’din il-kwistjoni li nħolqot bla bżonn.

Min irid jgħin l-Ilsien Malti u jġibu ‘l quddiem ma jagħmilx dan billi jieħu l-liġi f’idejh u jmur kontra l-għaqdiet li ilhom jaħdmu b’mod serju u professjonali favur ilsienna u dejjem mingħajr ħlas.

Għalhekk, filwaqt li dan l-Avviż Legali illegali u ċ-Ċentru li twaqqaf ma nistgħux nagħrfuhom, nilqgħu kull inizjattiva min-naħa tal-Ministru Owen Bonnici biex, skont l-ispirtu u l-kelma tal-Att dwar l-Ilsien Malti, insaħħu lill-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ilsien Malti u nagħtuh ir-riżorsi li ilu s-snin jistenna. B’hekk ikun jista’ joffri l-għodod meħtieġa lil dawk kollha, f’kull qasam tas-soċjetà, li jużaw u jistudjaw l-ilsien nazzjonali tagħna.

Statement by the Maltese Language Organisations

We, the undersigned, associations and academic bodies committed to the development of the Maltese language, would like to state that we agree with the National Council for the Maltese Language that the way in which the Centre for the Maltese Language was instituted by the Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government is null and void. The Centre was set up without the necessary preparation and without the formal consultation process envisaged by the Maltese Language Act. We have full faith in the Council and its leadership, and we offer it our backing in this unnecessary dispute.

Those who truly support the development and promotion of the Maltese language do not do so by taking the law into their own hands. They do not go against the organisations that work with integrity and in a professional manner and whose members do not seek any form of monetary compensation for their work.

In this context, although we cannot approve of the illegal Legal Notice which was published and we do not recognize the Centre which was set up, we welcome any initiative by Minister Owen Bonnici to give the Maltese Language Council the resources it has been requesting for many years as long as these are provided in accordance with the letter and spirit of the Maltese Language Act. The provision of such resources would allow the Council to provide much-needed tools to all those who study and make use of our national language.
