Public Reading by Moira Egan and Maltese Poets

On Thursday, 3 August, at 8pm, at Café Deux Baronnes in Valletta (near the Upper Barrakka Gardens), Inizjamed, in collaboration with St. James Cavalier, will be presenting a public reading by Maltese writers and the US poet Moira Egan, who is in Malta for a Writers Residency organized by the Virginia Arts Centre in the US and St. James Cavalier.

Moira Egan will be reading her work together with Clare Azzopardi, Antoine Cassar, Maria Grech Ganado, Adrian Grima, and others. The general public is welcome to attend. Entrance is free.

Moira Egan is currently enjoying a six-week sabbatical in Malta as an exchange visiting artist from the Virginia Centre for Creative Arts. She is currently working on her first novel.

This evening will be an opportunity to listen to some of her works which have received much praise, particularly in the American Press

Moira Egan's poems have appeared in many journals including POETRY, American Letters & Commentary, Boulevard and The Laurel Review, and in anthologies Kindled Terraces, American Poets in Greece and Lofty Dogmas: Poets in Poetics. She has an M.F.A. from Columbia University, where James Merrill chose her manuscript for the Austin Prize. A Pushcart Prize Nominee, she directs the creative writing programme in a public high school in Baltimore.

Moira Egan's first book of poems, Cleave (WWPH, 2004), was nominated for the National Book Award and was a finalist for the ForeWord Book of the Year Award. Recent poems have appeared in Gargoyle, Passages North, Poems & Plays, Poetry, Smartish Pace, 32 Poems, and West Branch, among many others. Her work is also featured in the anthologies, Kindled Terraces: American Poets in Greece; Lofty Dogmas: Poets on Poetics, forthcoming in 2005; and Sex & Chocolate, forthcoming in 2006. Her work has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She was a Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation Creative Fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts for 2004. Egan directs the Creative Writing Program at Catonsville High School and teaches poetry workshops at The Writer's Center in Bethesda, MD.
