Arti Viżiva

Raphael Vella u Pierre Portelli

F'dan il-workshop immexxi mill-artisti Raphael Vella u Pierre Portelli, l-istudenti se jkollhom l-opportunità li permezz ta' l-arti jagħtu ħajja ġdida lil materjal meqjus bħala skart, ngħidu aħna tazzi tal-plastik u kartun.

A workshop in which students, led by artists Raphael Vella and Pierre Portelli,  will use discarded material (like plastic cups and cardboard) to create something new. The main idea is recycling and to give a new life to things that seem to be no longer useful.

Letteratura Kontemporanja u Kitba Kreattiva

Immanuel Mifsud u Trevor Żahra

Trevor Żahra u Immanuel Mifsud se jaqraw xi xogħlijiet tagħhom lill-istudenti u jiddiskutuhom magħhom. L-istudenti mbagħad jinqasmu f'żewġ gruppi sabiex jagħmlu workshop tal-kitba. Għall-workshops l-istudenti jridu jġibu ftit karti u lapsijiet. Għal dawn iż-żewġ sessjonijiet jistgħu jattendu 60 student/a kull darba. Kemm Trevor kif ukoll Immanuel jistgħu jistiednu awturi oħra sabiex jaqraw xogħlijiet minn tagħhom u jiddiskutuh ma' l-istudenti.

L-idea hi li l-istudenti mhux biss jiltaqgħu ma’ l-awturi iżda jkollhom l-opportunità huma wkoll li jesperimentaw bil-kitba tal-letteratura f’atmosfera mhux tas-soltu.

Sħaba Gawwi - Marjanu Vella, Kitba Kreattiva u Drama

Marcelle Teuma u Adrian Grima

Din is-sessjoni tiffoka fuq l-espressjoni artistika ta’ l-istudenti permezz tal-kitba kreattiva u d-drama. Il-punt tat-tluq huwa l-poeżija tal-gawwi ta’ Marjanu Vella. L-istudenti jibdew billi jaraw dokumentarju bil-Malti maħdum minn Inizjamed u Education 22 (b’direzzjoni ta’ Karsten Xuereb) dwar “Il-Gawwi u Marjanu Vella”. Wara jkollhom żewġ sessjonijiet kreattivi li fihom jesprimu ruħhom permezz tad-drama u l-kitba. Is-sessjonijiet jitmexxew mid-direttriċi tal-palk Ms. Marcelle Teuma u l-kittieb Dr. Adrian Grima, li t-tnejn huma wkoll għalliema.

Din is-sessjoni interattiva hija parti mill-proġett "Sħaba Gawwi" li għandu l-għan li jagħti lura l-poeżija ta' Marjanu Vella lill-qarrejja. Ix-xogħol letterarju ma jistax jeżisti mingħajr il-qarrejja, u l-qarrejja inevitabbilment jaqraw ix-xogħol letterarju mill-esperjenza tagħhom, bl-ideoloġiji, bil-fehmiet, bl-assoċjazzjonijiet mentali tagħhom. Mhux tant il-mewt ta' l-awturi imma l-qawmien tal-qarrejja, li x-xogħol jiktbuh huma wkoll huma u jaqrawh.

Bi tħejjija għal din is-sessjoni l-istudenti jistgħu jużaw il-website dwar dan il-proġett partikulari, b’tagħrif dwar Marjanu Vella, u l-poeżiji tiegħu ispirati mill-gawwi.

Is-sessjonijiet tad-drama u l-kitba kreattiva jsiru madwar tema li toħroġ mill-poeżiji tal-gawwi ta’ Marjanu Vella u li tolqot lill-istudenti b’mod partikulari.

  Xi Riflessjonijiet fl-isfond tal-programm

Il-poeżiji ta' Marjanu Vella jibqgħu l-istess - il-kliem ma jinbidilx, il-mod kif kitibhom ma jinbidilx. Imma aħna u naqrawhom nqigħduhom taħt il-filtru ta' l-esperjenzi tagħna tal-ħajja, ta' dak li qrajna u smajna qabel. U għaldaqstant kull poeżija ta' Marjanu Vella kulħadd jaraha bil-mod uniku tiegħu, mil-lenti ta' l-esperjenzi u l-għarfien tiegħu. Il-poeżiji tiegħu ma jinbidlux fihom infushom, imma aħna li naqrawhom kontinwament narawhom b'modi differenti, skond il-kuxjenza unika ta' kull wieħed u waħda minna. F'dan is-sens aħna dawn il-poeżiji niktbuhom mill-ġdid.

Is-sehem tal-qarrejja, ta' l-udjenza fil-proċess tal-qari ta' xogħol letterarju huwa sehem ewlieni, sehem determinanti. M'aħniex sempliċiment spettaturi, mera li tirriflettu dak li hemm fil-kotba, fil-poeżiji, imma lentijiet differenti li minnhom, minkejja li jkollok l-istess xogħol letterarja, tara xogħlijiet differenti.

Mhux hekk biss, talli anki aħna kontinwament ninbidlu - mhux b'mod drastiku veru - imma ninbidlu. Kull kelma li nisimgħu, kull ġrajja li ngħaddu minnha, kull persuna li niltaqgħu magħha - dawn kollha jbiddluna kontinwament. Aħna m'aħniex blokok tal-konkrit li jibqgħu dejjem l-istess; aħna tafal li kull mument jagħġinha b'mod ġdid. Għaldaqstant jekk naqra l-poeżiji tal-gawwi ta' Marjanu Vella meta jkolli 16 narahom mod, u jekk naqrahom meta jkolli 32 narawhom, ninterpretahom, inġarrabhom mod ieħor.

Iktar ma xogħol letterarju jkollu xbihat ġodda, metafori friski, tifsila immaġinattiva, iktar hemm lok għall-interpretazzjoni. Iktar ma l-figura, bħalma hi l-figura tal-gawwi f'Marjanu Vella tkun dinamika, iktar tkun miftuħa għasl interpretazzjonijiet, għal qari differenti. Jekk tkun poeżija tas-soltu, xbiha tas-soltu, sentenza tas-soltu ma tantx tiġbidlek l-attenzjoni; imma meta tkun metafora friska, taħsdek, tqabbdek il-kurżità, issaħħrek, u ġieli bla ma trid iġġiegħlek taħseb u tibqa' taħseb fuqha, taqbdek taħt idejha biex ngħid hekk. Hekk jiġrilhom ħafna nies li jaqraw il-poeżiji tal-gawwi u poeżiji oħra ta' Marjanu Vella.

Patri Marjanu Vella huwa mgħallem kbir tal-forma fil-poeżija tiegħu. Kif qed ngħidu, l-awturi kollha jinqdew bil-forma ovvjament, imma Marjanu Vella huwa konxju ħafna, huwa attent ħafna tal-mod kif jikteb, u jinqeda bil-forma biex iwassal il-lingwa tiegħu b'mod effettiv. Marjanu Vella huwa mgħallem kbir tar-ritmu u sikwit joħloq ritmi differenti fl-istess poeżija biex joħloq effetti differenti, burdati differenti, ħsejjes differenti. Jinqeda wkoll bir-rima ħielsa u bl-alliterazzjoni. Kien jgħid li ċertu kliem jużah minħabba l-ħoss tiegħu, għax dimensjoni tal-ħoss hija dimensjoni importanti ħafna f'biċċa xogħol letterarja. Aħna drajna naqraw il-letteratura bi skiet perfett, mingħajr ma nlissnu mqar kelma waħda. U drajna ħażin. Għax il-letteratura qiegħda biex tinstema', u f'awtur tajjeb bħal Marjanu Vella, il-ħoss jagħti dimensjoni oħra lill-kontenut. Il-kelma "gawwi" kienet taffaxxinah u aktarx parti mis-suċċess ta' din il-figura sabiħa fil-letteratura ta' Marjanu Vella hija dovuta lill-ħoss qawwi (tal-/g/) u fl-istess ħin artab (il-/w/) tal-kelma /gawwi/. Il-ħoss stess donnu għandu l-ħila li jsaħħar, speċjalment bit-tlaqqigħa tal-vokali miftuħa /a/ mal-likwida doppja, u għalhekk iktar soda, /w/.

Hemm ukoll il-mod kif Patri Marjan jippreżenta l-kitba tiegħu fuq il-karta, ħaġa li żgur li kien attent ħafna għaliha. Patri Norbert Ellul-Vincenti, li kien l-ewwel seminarista ta' Patri Marjan u qatta' ħafna ħin jitkellem ħin jitkellem miegħu dwar il-kultura, il-letteratura u l-arti in ġenerali, isostni li l-mod kif il-poeżiji huma mifruxin fuq il-karta juri l-inċertezzi ta' Patri Marjan. Jien naħseb li d-disinji li ħoloq b'ħafna mill-poeżiji tiegħu fuq il-karta juru element ta' ċaqliq, ta' moviment. L-ispazji bejn l-istrofi u l-vrus donnu jirriflettu l-ispazji ta' silenzju li r-riflessjoni dwar il-ħajja sikwit tħalli fil-persuna li tirrifletti, il-vojt li ma jistax jimtela, il-mistoqsijiet li ma jistgħu jitwieġbu, l-esperjenza u l-ħsus li ma jistgħux jitfissru, l-ineffabbli. U ċ-ċaqliq bejn strofa u oħra huwa fil-fatt ċaqliq bejn spazju u ieħor, bejn mistoqsija u oħra, bejn dubju u ieħor; huwa ċ-ċaqliq, it-taqlib, id-dizorjentament, it-telfien ġieli, il-vagabondaġġ ta' min jistaqsi biex jipprova jwieġeb, ta' min irid jgħix u jġarrab il-ħajja, ta' min jinqabad quddiem baħar ta' kliem li sikwit ifixkel u sikwit jiddiżappunta u sikwit ibikkem jew jimmuta lil min irid jesprimi.

Iżda minkejja dawn il-mistoqsijiet kbar dwar it-tifsira, dwar l-iskop tal-ħajja, hemm ukoll kuxjenza ħajja dwar il-mument ta' issa u għalhekk il-poeżiji kollha huma ddatati, bil-ġurnata, minkejja li aktarx ftit huma l-poeti li jiktbu xogħol letterarju verament f'ġurnata imma fil-fatt idumu jaħdmu fuqu żmien twil.

Ethical Consumption and Fair Trade

 Vince Caruana and Chiara Perucca

The methodology used will be participative and various techniques will be employed, including presentations, group exercises, video and games.

Nota: il-parti li tmexxi Chiara Perucca tkun bl-Ingliż

The last decade has seen various dramatic changes, some negative and some positive. However, there is a silent revolution of positive initiatives emerging around the planet evolving the seeds of the future. These include a new environmental consciousness that seeks to contribute to the sustainable development of the earth, solidarity and mutual respect among peoples and eradication of poverty.

The seminar will encourage the participants to be active citizens and to believe in their ability to make a difference. Various examples of good practice involving environmental and critical consumer initiatives will be shared with the young people to help them broaden their horizons. By providing a worldview that puts responsibility at the centre of all relationships we begin to see that we are connected to each other through love, compassion, ecological responsibility and economic justice. A free fair traded and ecological snack will be served during the seminar. The methodology used will be participative and various techniques will be employed, including presentations, group exercises, video and games.

One of these will be presented by the European Volunteer Chiara Perucca.

She has invented a role-play which will transform the St. James Cavalier room into a virtual supermarket. The students, who have been provided with some virtual money and a shopping list, will have to buy different products choosing from the most common brand names.

After the “shopping” a score will be given to each student, taking into consideration the environmental impact and the respect each brand has towards human rights (the criteria of the score is based on real data).

The aim of the game is to make young people (who make up is a considerable part of the consumer population) conscious of the important consequences and impacts that the simple action of buying has. By promoting ethical consumption, we hope to transmit to the student the importance of being responsible citizens of the world.

Wirja tax-Xogħlijiet ta' l-Istudenti

Fl-Istudio tal-Kavallier ta’ San Ġakbu fetħet wirja sabiħa ta’ xogħlijiet artistiċi ta’ għadd ta’ studenti tas-sekondarja li saru fi ħdan il-proġett artistiku Bokkaporti Skejjel. Il-wirja, li għaliha d-dħul huwa b’xejn, se tkun miftuħa kuljum bejn l-10.00 ta' filgħodu u d-9.00 ta' filgħaxija, u tagħlaq nhar il-Ġimgħa, 21 ta’ Mejju, 2004.

Il-proġett Bokkaporti Skejjel immexxi minn Inizjamed bi sħab mal-Kavallier ta' San Ġakbu u l-Klabb Kotba Maltin, kien jinkludi 10 sessjonijiet interattivi ta’ sagħtejn u nofs il-waħda dwar l-arti u l-kultura għall-istudenti tas-sekondarja. Il-proġett tmexxa mill-għalliema u l-kittieba Clare Azzopardi u minn Alessandra Sciarra (fir-ritratt), voluntiera Taljana fil-programm EVS ta’ l-UE li speċjalizzat fil-letteratura u t-traduzzjoni.

Il-wirja fiha xogħlijiet ta' l-arti u l-letteratura ta’ ħafna studenti li qegħdin fit-tielet jew ir-raba' sena ta’ l-iskola sekondarja. Ix-xogħlijiet ta’ l-istudenti jinkludu arti magħmula mill-plastik waqt is-sessjonijiet li tmexxew mill-artisti Raphael Vella u Pierre Portelli mal-Liċeo tal-Bliet Maria Regina u l-Iskola Sekondarja Sir Luigi Preziosi.

F’din il-wirja ta’ Bokkaporti Skejjel hemm poeżiji u stejjer miktubin minn studenti fl-iskejjel Lily of the Valley, St Joseph (Tas-Sliema) u Maria Regina waqt is-sessjonijiet ma’ Adrian Grima, Marcelle Teuma u Trevor Żahra. Hemm ukoll għall-wiri sensiela ta’ ittri indirizzati lill-President ta’ Malta dwar il-ħsara ta’ ikel modifikat ġenetikament u l-impatt pożittiv ta’ inizjattivi globali bħal dak tal-kummerċ ġust. Dawn l-ittri ta’ l-istudenti nkitbu wara s-sessjonijiet ma' Vince Caruana u Karsten Xuereb.

L-għan ta’ l-inizjattiva “Bokkaporti - Skejjel” li bdiet f’Jannar ta’ din is-sena huwa li tixħet l-attenzjoni fuq modi differenti ta’ kif il-bnedmin jirrakkontaw l-istejjer tagħhom permezz tad-drama, tal-mużika, tal-letteratura, tal-film, taż-żfin, u tal-fotografija. Il-programm iħeġġeġ lill-istudenti biex jaħdmu ma’ l-artisti b’tali mod li huma stess ikunu jistgħu jesploraw it-talenti tagħhom u l-mezzi differenti, uħud aktarx moħbija jew mhux użati, li għandhom f’idejhom biex “jirrakkontaw” lilhom infushom.

Dan il-proġett huwa parti mill-proġett “Bokkaporti - stejjer dwar ħafna xorti” ffinanzjat mill-UNESCO li fih Inizjamed qed tinkoraġġixxi lill-adolexxenti u liż-żgħażagħ biex jirrakkontaw “l-istorja” tagħhom minflok iħallu ’l ħaddieħor jirrakkontaha, kif jidhirlu hu, għalihom. L-istejjer f’“Bokkaporti” jiffukaw l-aktar fuq kif il-persuna tinteraġixxi ma’ l-ambjent fiżiku u uman li tgħix fih u għaldaqstant iħeġġu lil dawk li joħolquhom biex isiru aktar konxji mhux biss ta’ dan l-ambjent imma anki tal-mod kif jgħixuh.

L-għaxar sessjonijiet ta’ Bokkaporti Skejjel tmexxew mill-edukaturi Vince Caruana u Karsten Xuereb, il-kompożitur Karl Fiorini, il-kittieba Adrian Grima u Trevor Żahra, l-artisti Pierre Portelli u Raphael Vella, il-mużiċisti Renzo Spiteri u Albert Garzia, l-attriċi Marcelle Teuma.

Kif tixhed din il-wirja, il-proġett Bokkaporti Skejjel kien suċċess kbir u hemm il-ħsieb li dawn is-sessjonijiet artistiċi ma’ l-istudenti tas-sekondarja jkomplu fis-sena skolastika li jmiss. Għaldaqstant, dawk l-iskejjel li huma interessati li jieħdu sehem għandhom jiktbu lil inizjamed@maltaforum.org.

Unusual Art Exhibition by Students

at St. James Cavalier

An exhibition of works of literature and art by secondary school students produced within the Bokkaporti Skejjel creative project has just opened in the Studio of St. James Cavalier. The exhibition, for which entrance is free, is open between 10am and 9pm, and closes on Friday 21 May.

The Bokkaporti Skejjel project included a series of ten interactive artistic sessions for secondary school children at St. James Cavalier that started in January 2004. The project is run by Inizjamed in collaboration with St. James Cavalier and Klabb Kotba Maltin, a leading publisher of books and periodicals in Maltese and in English.

The sessions, which focussed mainly on music, literature, the visual arts and the objects that we consume in our everyday life, were led by educators Vince Caruana and Karsten Xuereb, composer Karl Fiorini, writers Adrian Grima and Trevor Żahra, artists Pierre Portelli and Raphael Vella, musicians Renzo Spiteri and Albert Garzia, and actress Marcelle Teuma.

This initiative is linked to a project run by Inizjamed and funded by UNESCO called Bokkaporti – Stejjer dwar Ħafna Xorti in which young people are encouraged to ‘tell their story,’ to express their thoughts and feelings about their physical environment and how they interact with it.

In Bokkaporti Skejjel the idea is to involve the students and their teachers in an artistic and educational process that goes well beyond the two and a half hours reserved for each of the interactive sessions. The colourful exhibition includes some of the poems, stories and works of visual art done by the students during and after the artistic sessions with Pierre Portelli, Raphael Vella, Marcelle Teuma, Adrian Grima and Trevor Zahra.

There are also a number of letters addressed to the President of the Republic in which the students highlight the dangers of genetically modified food and the positive impact of global initiatives like fair trade. These letters were written after the interactive sessions with Karsten Xuereb and Vince Caruana.

The Bokkaporti Skejjel project is coordinated by writer and educator Clare Azzopardi who is specializing in the teaching of creative writing to children. She is being assisted by Alessandra Sciarra, a language and literature graduate from the University of Bologna and EVS volunteer with Inizjamed who also spoke to the hundreds of studnets who attended the sessions about the Youth programme of the EU, and especially about EVS.

The success of the Bokkaporti Skejjel project has led the organizers to start work on a second set of interactive creative sessions at St. James Cavalier. Those secondary schools that would like to take part are to write to inizjamed@maltaforum.org.

Sessjonijiet Interattivi dwar l-Arti u l-Kultura

għall-Istudenti tas-Sekondarja

Nhar il-Ħamis, 5 ta' Jannar, 2004, Inizjamed, bi sħab mal-Kavallier ta' San Ġakbu u l-Klabb Kotba Maltin, bdiet sensiela ta' għaxar sessjonijiet interattivi ta’ sagħtejn u nofs il-waħda għall-istudenti tas-sekondarja dwar l-arti u l-kultura.

Din l-inizjattiva hija parti mill-proġett “Bokkaporti - stejjer dwar ħafna xorti” ffinanzjat mill-UNESCO li fih Inizjamed qed tinkoraġġixxi lill-adolexxenti u liż-żgħażagħ biex jirrakkontaw “l-istorja” tagħhom minflok iħallu ’l ħaddieħor jirrakkontaha, kif jidhirlu hu, għalihom. L-istejjer f’“Bokkaporti” jiffukaw l-aktar fuq kif il-persuna tinteraġixxi ma’ l-ambjent fiżiku u uman li tgħix fih u għaldaqstant iħeġġu lil dawk li joħolquhom biex isiru aktar konxji mhux biss ta’ dan l-ambjent imma anki tal-mod kif jgħixuh.

L-inizjattiva “Bokkaporti – Skejjel” se tixħet l-attenzjoni fuq uħud mill-modi differenti kif il-bnedmin jirrakkontaw l-istejjer tagħhom permezz tad-drama, il-mużika, l-oġġetti li jipproduċu u jużaw u li b’xi mod jirrappreżentaw il-kultura tagħhom, il-letteratura, il-film, u l-arti viżiva, inkluża l-fotografija. Il-programm jinkoraġġixxi lill-istudenti biex jinteraġixxu ma’ l-artisti u l-edukaturi mistiedna b’tali mod li huma stess ikunu jistgħu jesploraw it-talenti tagħhom u l-mezzi differenti, uħud aktarx moħbija jew mhux użati, li għandhom f’idejhom biex jesprimu (jew “jirrakkontaw”) lilhom infushom.

Imma l-inizjattiva “Bokkaporti – Skejjel” għandha wkoll l-għan li tħeġġeġ lill-istudenti biex jesperimentaw speċifikament bil-kitba ta’ l-istejjer jew l-awtobijografija bil-Malti. U dan se jkun element importanti għax se jagħtihom id-dritt li jkunu l-protagonisti ta’ “Bokkaporti.” Kriterju ewlieni huwa li “Bokkaporti – Skejjel” joffri opportunitajiet li l-istudenti qajla jsibu band’oħra.

Għal kull sessjoni se jattendu 50 student u studenta mill-iskejjel sekondarji fil-lokalitajiet differenti, il-Liċej, l-iskejjel indipendenti u l-iskejjel tal-Knisja. L-għalliema se jħejju lill-istudenti għas-sessjonijiet minn qabel u l-materjal li se jinħadem waqt u wara l-workshops mill-ħames mitt student u studenta li se jattendu se jintwera waqt wirja li se ssir bix-xogħlijiet taż-żgħażagħ mill-proġett Bokkaporti wkoll.

Is-sessjonijiet ta’ Bokkaporti Skejjel se jitmexxew mill-edukatur Vince Caruana, il-kompożitur Karl Fiorini, l-ornitologu Ray Galea, il-kittieba Adrian Grima u Trevor Żahra, l-artisti Pierre Portelli u Raphael Vella, il-perkussionista Renzo Spiteri, il-mużiċista Albert Garzia, l-attriċi Marcelle Teuma, u l-attivist kulturali u edukatur Karsten Xuereb.

Il-koordinazzjoni tal-proġett Bokkaporti Skejjel tinsab f’idejn il-kittieba u għalliema Clare Azzopardi li qed tispeċjalizza fit-tagħlim tal-kitba kreattiva lit-tfal. Għandha tgħinha lil Alessandra Sciarra, gradwata Taljana fil-lingwa u l-letteratura mill-Università ta’ Bologna li qed taħdem bħala voluntiera ma’ Inizjamed permezz tal-programm ta’ l-EVS ta’ l-Unjoni Ewropea għall-voluntiera żgħażagħ Ewropej.

Fil-laqgħat tagħha ma’ l-istudenti Alessandra Sciarra se titkellem ukoll dwar l-esperjenza tagħha bħala voluntiera u tintroduċi dan il-programm lill-istudenti. Permezz ta’ l-EVS, fl-età ta’ bejn 18 u 25 sena, iż-żgħażagħ Maltin jistgħu jsiefru biex jagħmlu xogħol volontarju f’oqsma bħall-ambjent, il-kultura, l-arti, u l-isports f’wieħed mill-24 pajjiż ieħor membru ta’ l-UE.

L-inizjattiva “Bokkaporti” inġenerali huwa mnebbaħ minn proġetti simili li saru f’Malta u barra minn Malta minn għadd ta’ organizzazzjonijiet, fosthom gruppi ta’ teatru u żfin f’Sardinja u Majorca mseħbin ma’ Inizjamed fil-proġett multilaterali mediterranju Arċipelagi.

L-ewwel sessjoni ta’ Bokkaporti Skejjel tmexxiet minn Karl Fiorini u Renzo Spiteri. Fil-workshop tiegħu, Renzo Spiteri ffoka fuq l-aspett perkussiv tal-mużika permezz ta’ strumenti apposta waqt li Karl Fiorini wera kif tista’ tuża l-pjanu biex toħloq effetti perkussivi u liriċi differenti.

Fis-sessjoni tagħhom, Karsten Xuereb u Vince Caruana se jippreżentaw storja fi storja, jew aħjar, storja wara storja, b’mod divertenti u li jqajjem il-kurżità ta’ l-istudenti u jħeġġiġhom jieħdu sehem attiv. L-istorja tal-faċċata, hija dik li jaraw kuljum b’għajnejhom l-istudenti. Għalhekk, stejjer marbuta mal-klassi fejn jaħdmu ma’ sħabhom, mal-vann li jwassalhom l-iskola, ma’l-ikel ta’ ġol-kaxxa tal-lunch u ż-żarbun li jilbsu għall-PE. Stejjer oħra jaslu permezz tat-TV, fosthom l-aħbarijiet u l-cartoons.

Trevor Żahra u Adrian Grima se jaqraw xi xogħlijiet tagħhom lill-istudenti u jiddiskutuh magħhom. L-istudenti mbagħad jinqasmu f'żewġ gruppi sabiex jagħmlu workshop tal-kitba. L-idea hi li l-istudenti mhux biss jiltaqgħu ma’ l-awturi iżda jkollhom l-opportunità huma wkoll li jesperimentaw bil-kitba tal-letteratura f’atmosfera mhux tas-soltu.

Il-proġett "Sħaba Gawwi" għandu l-għan li jagħti lura l-poeżija ta' Marjanu Vella lill-udjenza, f’dan il-każ l-istudenti. F’din is-sessjoni se jintwerew slajds tal-gawwi minn Ray Galea u l-istudenti jistaqsu u jitkellmu dwar l-esperjenzi tagħhom marbutin mal-gawwi u l-għasafar in ġenerali. Se jintwera wkoll film maħdum apposta bl-idea li l-istudenti jidentifikaw il-letteratura mar-realtà tagħhom, mal-baħar, il-gawwi, ma’ Marjanu Vella l-bniedem, u ma’ l-emozzjonijiet ewlenin li nġarrbu. It-tielet parti tinkludi preżentazzjoni ta’ wħud mill-poeżiji tal-gawwi mill-attriċi Marcelle Teuma u l-perkussjonista Renzo Spiteri. F’din il-parti jkun hemm enfasi fuq ir-ritmu, bl-involviment ta’ l-istudenti li mhux se jkunu udjenza passiva.

Fis-sessjoni maħsuba għall-arti viżiva, l-artisti Raphael Vella u Pierre Portelli se jagħmlu żewġ workshops ta’ tpinġija ma’ kull wieħed u waħda mill-istudenti li fihom mhux biss imexxuhom f’biċċa xogħol artistika iżda jaqsmu magħhom ukoll parti mill-istorja ta’ l-arti inġenerali u parti mill-istorja tagħhom bħala artisti. Bħal fis-sessjonijiet kollha, l-istudenti se jingħataw xi xogħol kreattiv x’jagħmlu li mbagħad jinġabar u jintwera waqt wirja apposta fi tmiem il-proġett Bokkaporti.

Il-proġett Bokkaporti Skejjel qed jitmexxa minn Inizjamed u l-Kavallier ta’ San Ġakbu bl-appoġġ tal-Klabb Kotba Maltin. Il-Protagonisti ta' Bokkaporti Skejjel

“Which came first, someone once joked, the campfire or the storyteller? Perhaps they both came into being simultaneously: the spark of flint created the first campfire and the spark of imagination that created the first story.” (Stott, 1994)

Bokkaporti Skejjel 2004 at St. James Cavalier

On Thursday, 5 February, 2004, Inizjamed, in collaboration with St. James Cavalier and Klabb Kotba Maltin, will be starting a series of ten interactive artistic sessions for secondary school children at St. James Cavalier called Bokkaporti Skejjel. The sessions will focus mainly on stories told through music, literature, the visual arts (including photography) and the objects that we consume in our everyday life.

This initiative is linked to a project run by Inizjamed and funded by UNESCO called Bokkaporti – Stejjer dwar Ħafna Xorti in which young people are encouraged to ‘tell their story,’ to express their thoughts and feelings about their physical environment and how they interact with it.

While in the main Bokkaporti project, Inizjamed is working with other local organizations that are already involved in youth work, like the Third World Group, St. Patricks and ŻAK (Catholic Action Youth), in Bokkaporti Skejjel the idea is to involve the students and their teachers in an artistic and educational process that goes well beyond the two and a half hours reserved for the one interactive session each young student will be attending at St. James Cavalier. The teachers have been asked to prepare their students for their particular session and to assist the students in carrying out the tasks assigned to them by the artists and educators leading the workshops.

The artistic material produced by the 500 female and male students who will be attending the sessions will then be displayed during an exhibition during which the young people involved in the main Bokkaporti project will also be put on show.

The various Bokkaporti Skejjel sessions will be led by educator Vince Caruana, composer Karl Fiorini, ornithologist Ray Galea, writers Adrian Grima and Trevor Żahra, artists Pierre Portelli and Raphael Vella, percussionist Renzo Spiteri, actress Marcelle Teuma, and cultural activist and educator Karsten Xuereb.

The Bokkaporti Skejjel project is being coordinated by writer and educator Clare Azzopardi who is specializing in the teaching of creative writing to children. She is being assisted by Alessandra Sciarra, a language and literature graduate from the University of Bologna and EVS volunteer who will also introduce the students to the Youth programme of the EU (especially the EVS programme) and its potential to help young people appreciate and experience cultural diversity.

An EVS project allows a young person between 18 and 25 to be a volunteer in another country for a specified period, normally between 6 and 12 months. The young persons are expected to dedicate their time and effort on a project from which the local community will benefit. In exchange volunteers are given the opportunity to practice their skills, gain cultural and social capital and at the same time build on their future. Voluntary service activities can take place in the field of the environment, arts and culture, activities with children, young people or the elderly, heritage, sports and leisure or civil protection.

Bokkaporti is inspired by similar initiatives being undertaken in Malta and abroad and includes inputs from partners on other Mediterranean islands such as Sardinia and Majorca who, like Inizjamed, are members of the multilateral Archipelagos project. These organizations have invaluable expertise and experience in community arts projects and animation. The young people involved in the project, will be encouraged to “go down the hatchway of their personal history and that of their community.”

This process gives people greater self-awareness and confidence in themselves; ultimately, re-appropriating your story, telling it yourself rather than having someone else narrate it instead of you, empowers you. “We do not want to intrude or pry into anyone’s life," says Dr. Adrian Grima, coordinator of Inizjamed, "and we will work with the organisations which already have a relationship with these children and know how to respect their privacy. It will be a learning experience for us too.”

The first session of Bokkaporti Skejjel on Thursday will be led by Karl Fiorini and Renzo Spiteri. In this session the students will be divided into two groups of 10-15 respectively. Renzo Spiteri will focus on the percussive aspect of music through the use of percussion instruments. Karl Fiorini will demonstrate the diverse effects produced on the Pianoforte through interpretations of percussive and lyrical effects on the instrument.

This project is being run by Inizjamed and St. James Cavalier with the support of Klabb Kotba Maltin. KKM and Midsea Books Ltd are Malta’s leading publishers of books and periodicals in Maltese and in English on Maltese and Mediterranean culture, fiction, literature, children’s books, text-books, tourist literature, dictionaries, books of reference and, facsimiles of rare books.

Workshop tal-mużika fil-Kavallier ta' San Ġakbu

Pauline Abela

Nhar il-Ħamis, 5 ta' Frar, 2004, grupp ta' 42 studenta mill-form lll, IV u V attendew workshop tal-mużika fil-Kavallier ta' San Ġakbu - Ċentru għall-Kultura, l-Arti u l-Krejattivita. Din l-attivita kienet l-ewwel minn sensiela t'għaxar sessjonijiet interattivi li INIZJAMED, flimkien ma' l-istess Ċentru u l-Klabb Kotba Maltin, qed torganizza bis-saħħa tal-proġett Bokkaporti Skejjel.

Bokkaporti Skejjel twaqqaf bil-għan li jagħti opportunitajiet artisitiċi primarjament lill-studenti li jattendu skejjel sekondarji. Fost attivitajiet oħra fis-sensiela se jkun hemm workshops f'arti viżiva, drama u letteratura.

Il-programm ta' nofs ta' nhar beda billi Alessandra Sciarra - Taljana li qiegħda Malta fuq programm ta' volontarjat ta' l-Unjoni Ewropea, imsejjaħ EVS (European Voluntary Service) - tatna merħba. Imbagħad inqsamna f'żewġ gruppi biex nibdew il-workshops interattivi. Dawn il-workshops tmexxew minn żewġ artisti magħrufa sew fil-qasam tal-mużika lokali: Karl Fiorini - kompożitur u pjanist, u Renzo Spiteri - perkussjonista. L-istudenti qattgħu sessjoni ta' 75 minuta ma' kull artist. Is-sessjonijiet bdew billi l-artist ta l-istorja ta' l-istrument li huwa juża u mbagħad stieden lill-istudenti biex jieħdu sehem.

Fil-workshop tal-pjanu, l-artist stieden lill-istudenti tlieta tlieta, biex dawn idoqqu nota kull wieħed b'temp differenti biex flimkien joħolqu armonija. Min-naħa l-oħra, fil-workshop tal-perkussjoni, Renzo introduċiena għal strumenti tal-perkussjoni li maħluqin mix-xejn, biex ngħidu hekk. Per eżempju, container biż-żrieragħ fih u ieħor magħmul minn dwiefer ta' mogħoż ! li jgħixu fil-muntanji. Hu spjega wkoll il-fatt kif huwa jagħmel użu minn materjal skartat biex jużahom bħala strumenti.

Fl-aħħar iż-żewġ artisti tawna 'performance' mill-aktar sabiħa bil-pjanu u l-djembe (aqra 'ġembe' - tip ta' tambur Afrikan).

Wara nofs ta' nhar ta' parteċipazzjoni artistika u krejattiva, l-istudenti ħassewhom sodisfatti u kburin li attendew għal esperjenza unika bħal din. Huma ġew mistiedna biex sa April li ġej jippreżentaw proġett: esej u/jew strument ta' perkussjoni ivvintat minnhom stess biex jiġu ppreżentati f'wirja li se ssir f'Mejju ta' din is-sena. Fil-wirja se jieħdu sehem l-istudenti kollha li jkunu attendew dawn il-workshops interattivi ta' arti u kreattività.

Nota għall-ġenituri: Tkun ħaġa pożittiva ħafna jekk intom titkellmu ma' wliedkom fuq din l-esperjenza u ttuhom xi ideat dwar il-proġett. Grazzi ħafna!
